On assignment in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy.
Mary Ann Castronovo Fusco with her family.

A freelance writer and editor based in New Jersey, Mary Ann Castronovo Fusco has always been fascinated by language. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, to Italian parents, she majored in journalism and minored in Italian and Spanish at New York University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in three years. While employed as an editor, she obtained a master’s degree in Italian literature from Rutgers University, where she was inducted into Phi Sigma Iota, the national foreign language honor society.

Mary Ann co-authored The +10% Principle: How To Get Extraordinary Results From Ordinary People (Pfeiffer 1993) and was senior editor at the award-winning Attenzione magazine, where she wrote cover stories on celebrities, sports, food, and social issues. She also has held senior positions at Prentice Hall, BusinessWeek Careers magazine, and Journal of Organizational Excellence (John Wiley & Sons) and contributed to the Zagat New Jersey Restaurants guide (2009) and Italian American Writers on New Jersey (Rutgers University Press, 2003).

An award-winning food journalist, Mary Ann developed an expertise in Italian cuisine and fresh produce, writing the weekly “In Season” column for the Savor food section of The Star-Ledger, NJ’s largest daily newspaper, for 12 years. Her freelance articles have been published in The New York Times, the New York Daily News, and numerous consumer and trade magazines. In 2010, she received a Distinguished Service Award from the Italian Trade Commission for enduring commitment and contribution to Italian food. She is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Proficient in translating technical jargon into fluid and reader-friendly text, Mary Ann has helped improve the readability and efficacy of written communications for numerous corporate and academic clients, including The Rockefeller Group, the University of Michigan, Industrial Relations Counselors, Cushman & Wakefield, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mary Ann’s travels have taken her throughout Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Caribbean, and North America — and onto the sets of two TV game shows: “Trump Card” (she won) and “Jeopardy!” (she lost, but took solace in having gotten the Final Jeopardy! answer right). She lives with her husband, Pasquale (Pat) Fusco, and has two sons.
